Bought these recently at an antique store, it's should be blatantly obvious why I bought them. Because they're based off classic golden age cartoons of course ! They're not in the greatest of shape, that's just par for the course with buying stuff like this. The store actually had multiple copies of the Donald Duck book in varying degrees of ware and tare. The thing that makes these so great is how appealing the artwork is.
They made already appealing characters and made them even more lovable. The Donald Duck one dates back to the 50's and has it's basis in the 1956 Donald cartoon "Chip's Ahoy." The Tom and Jerry book is an original story and isn't based on any cartoon in particular but the artwork was done by people from MGM's cartoon studio who made the cartoons. The story was done by cartoon veterans Harvey Eisenberg and Al Dempster. Dempster did quite a bit of work for Disney on backgrounds and color styling in the 40's and 50's. Eisenberg worked at MGM and Hanna Barbera and did lots of layout work on cartoons.
There might be more of these in my possession in the future is I find anything interesting or really appealing to me.
